The City of College Park, Maryland, Department of Public Works is recruiting for the full-time position of Fleet Supervisor. The ideal candidate will supervise a mechanic and repair and maintain the City's automotive fleet. This position is performed independently and under the general supervision of the Public Works Director.

The Fleet Supervisor ensures that all City-owned automobiles, trucks, and heavy and specialty equipment vehicles' performance, repair, and maintenance meet and/or exceed quality standards by providing daily mechanical site operations to maximize customer service. In addition to planning and coordinating work schedules to ensure even flow and distribution of work, expeditious handling of priority repairs and meeting schedules and deadlines to ensure that the City's fleet remains operational and available to users.

This person would administer the City-wide motor vehicle and motorized equipment preventive maintenance program and determine priorities, sequence, and intervals for inspections, service, and repair.

This position is considered essential during emergencies. As a condition of employment, the individual selected is required to be available to respond to emergencies.


  • High School Diploma or GED, or vocational/trade school with courses in automotive technology
  • Three years of experience in motor equipment service and repair work at the mechanic level
  • or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of standard and specialized service and repair methods for motor vehicles and equipment types and makes.
  • Ability to supervise, provide guidance, assist mechanics, and review and evaluate the work of others.

The hourly pay is range is from $30.05 - $32.79, depending on qualifications. The benefits package includes health insurance, Maryland State Retirement, and more.
